US education dept cracks down on Stanford and other universities over race-conscious practices

The U.S. Department of Education recently issued directives to federally funded institutions, including Stanford, mandating the end of race-based practices in admissions, hiring, financial aid, and campus life. This follows the Supreme Court’s 2023 ruling against race-based affirmative action. Universities are required to comply within two weeks or face potential loss of federal funding. Stanford is reviewing the guidelines.
