New York Police Department lowers education standards to solve ‘hiring crises’

With officer numbers dropping and mass retirements expected, the department is also reintroducing a physical test. Despite the change, NYPD remains the only major U.S. police force requiring college credits. The move aims to attract recruits and ease staff shortages.
