Art education is vital for students’ cognitive, emotional, and creative development. In response to this, Proposition 28 allocated $1 billion for arts education in LAUSD. However, funds have allegedly been misused, as they were redirected to cover existing staff costs rather than hiring new art teachers. Parents, including former superintendent Austin Beutner, have filed a lawsuit demanding proper allocation to support students’ arts education, especially in low-income schools.
